Yesterday i had to hand-over my small baby (cat FP Salina 48 ~ 17to) to the team of the Basimakopoulos shipyard to haul it out and put on land. I was very nervious because the last time i've seen my boat on a lifter (on a shipyard north of Italy) was not a very good experience. Here at Basimakopoulos - the timing and communication was stright forward, the equipment they used is absolutely state-of-the-art, well maintained and - the most important point - the team is working as a team, very professional and experts in using their equipment. So - next time - i'll relax and go for a coffee while the team will lauch my boat to the water - absolutely no reasoin to get nervious

Id like to say something new and incisive about the boatyard but the above comments say it all really....it's just a nice place to be. I echo their comments. If I am looking for fault I would say the loo and shower block, although clean and tidy, are probably seeking an upgrade in the future and wifi diminishes with your distance from the office. But overall it's the best yard I have been in, having been to Sicily, Croatia, the Italian mainland and Levkas.

Five reasons why is Basimakopoulos Shipyard the best: 1 Punctual - when they say be in the lift well at 9 am they mean it, the big travel lift and the smiling boys are ready and welcoming - Kalimera - Ti kánete? 2 World quality lifting, transporting and cradling equipment 3 Fair prices 4 Help with Greek bureaucracy 5 The owners and management are courteous, available every day and able to solve any problem Some things that appeal to me as a sailor and boat builder are: This is a real boat building yard, they build and restore beautiful Greek fishing and pleasure boats. You can see the boss, Yanni, escaping from his office to the big shed at any opportunity. The big old band saw whirrs, an ancient pine log is cut into planks and machined flat. There are traditional tools like an adze lying about in his office. And uncle Elefteri who looked all over the world for the best boat lifting machinery system is the same - likes being in the shed. Who doesn't? And everything is tidy, shipshape and freshly painted - no debris lying around the yard. And then there is Evangelos assisted by Irini, Yanni's daughter. He runs the office with smiling efficiency. Multilingual, responds quickly to emails, plays his spreadsheets like a grand piano. He is the mainstay of the administration, every one comes out of Evangelos's office smiling. Do I have a basis for this comparison? Well after thirty years of cruising France, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Tunisia and Greece we are not going anywhere else. Thanks and best wishes to all at Basimakopoulos

One winter sharing our experiences with other sailors in Barcelona, knowing about our experiences on shipyards nearly all around the world Caribe, Brasil, USA, French Polinesia, New Caledonia, Australia , someone asked me about my opinion were I consider will be the best place to leave the vessel when going back home . The nearest one to your sailing area of course. - was my immediate answer. I mean which shipyard do you think is the best, considering different factors as, safety, comfort, staff, distance to airport, cleanest, and of course price- he pointed again. That’s not an easy question to answer, I said, but after a while I said. I know one shipyard in the Argolikós at the NE of Peloponnesus, (at that point I had to explain where is the Peloponnesus), owned and ruled by one family, that is probably the best choice I could recommend, may be the toilets could be improued, but for the rest , its difficult to find better. Three sailors required the details of that shipyard in Kilada. One brought his boat to Basimakopoulos Shipyard

Merci

We have been wintering our 47' sailing boat Vaya con Dios for several years at Basimakopouloi Shipyard, after several other experiences in Greece and in Turkey and think this yard cannot be equalled in the area. You will find there total safety at haul out and dry dock thanks to top level and very modern equipment. Competence is at its highest in terms of maintenance, mechanics, woodwork, rigging, plumbing, etc. with their own teams or through specialized dealers. Among several, we had two important works performed. The replacement of our teak deck, with top quality 12 mm real teak wood, and a beautiful level of achievement. And the repair of our fresh water stainless steel tank which was drastically leaking. The tank was removed and placed back without a single scratch in the cabin's varnish. Important for us is the fact that it is Iannis, the boss, who comes in person to see what needs to be done in terms of works and checks the result. Evangelos who coordinates everything is absolutely key in the organization, speaks perfect English and works hard on his French ! His sens of humour makes makes all meetings a very nice experience. Irene is sweet at the desk and and very efficient. The location of the yard in Kilada is interesting. Nice and cosy little village, with good tavernas and different levels of rooms to let if needed, protected from strong winds an bad weather. Easy to reach from all ferry and plane lines. Close to bigger towns with all shopping facilities. Last but not least, the whole team is friendly, customer oriented, adaptable, ready to help, at all levels of the business. We like to think of them all as friends. We would just like to make a little request : the toilet and shower facilities could easily be improved. We hope that is in the program of the shipyard's extension.
